Hi there!

Solve for x: -4|x + 5| = - 16

---------------------------------------

−4(|x + 5|)/−4 = −16/-4 (Divide Both Sides By 4)

|x + 5| = 4

|x + 5| = 4 (Solve Absolute Value)

---------------------------------------

Either it's: x + 5 = 4 or x + 5 = −4

---------------------------------------

x + 5 = 4 (Answer 1)

x + 5 − 5 = 4 − 5 (Subtract 5 from both sides of the equation)

x = −1

---------------------------------------

x + 5 = −4 (Answer 2)

x + 5 − 5 = −4 − 5(Subtract 5 from both sides of the equation)

x = −9

---------------------------------------

Answer: x = -1 or x = -9

---------------------------------------

Hope This Helps :)
