Consistently praising children for mediocre or even poor performance can lead to an inflated self-esteem, which may cause children with low self-esteem to avoid important learning experiences.

Adults use to praise children with poor performance because they want to motivate them. But recent studies by Dr. Eddie Brummelman have found that this could be counterproductive.

Inflated praise may cause kids with low self-esteem to avoid important consequences of their actions and limit the learnig experience if they do not recognize the lack of results.
