The First Continental Congress was a delegates's assembly held from September to October of 1776. Twelve of the thirteen colonies assisted to the gathering in Philadephia.

As garments with refinement manners and sociability improved polite relations, the delegates paid special attention with the clothes they wore. They tried to improve their political authority with the other delegates.

Some other delegated tried to show their command through garments and good maners, Demeanor, for them, was part of the symbol of authority.
