What seems to have motivated Vera Brittain to take – and try to excel at –

a position as a nurse during the war? In what ways did her experience break
from her well-to-do upbringing as a “proper lady” How does her memoir of
the homefront complement Jünger’s remembrances of the battlefront?

Vera Brittain's fiance Roland Leighton, two close friends and her brother died in the war. These incidents motivated Vera to try and excel at the job of a nurse. She could have happily lived a luxurious life as she was from a rich family who owned paper mills but she decided to help the people injured during war.Vera worked as a volunteer nurse in France helping the wounded soldiers on the Western Front.
