How are osmosis and diffusion alike

They both move molecules from high to low concentration, they both usually move things across a membrane, but diffusion is not always across a membrane. It can just be molecules moving.

Answer:

  • Osmosis and diffusion are alike in a way that in both motion of molecules/water is in the direction of concentration gradient.
  • Osmosis and diffusion are passive process (energy free).

Step-by-step explanation:

  • Osmosis is the process of movement of water from high concentration of water to low concentration of water across the permeable membrane.
  • Diffusion is the transport of materials from high concentration to low concentration.
  • Concentration gradient means the Movement always from higher to lower concentration of materials.
  • So in the osmosis and diffusion movement is always from high to low concentration.
