During the Ming Dynasty the empire started to shut down to the rest of the world, these politics continued with Qing and the Empire remained isolated until the 19th century.

The Emperor believed that China had everything necessary and this caused considered slow progress in every area including technology. This was a moment when mercantilism was at its peak, and the trade of goods, technology, and information in the world was high, so China lost most of the improvements that Europe had during that time.
