"Witch!", "Red!", "Terrorist"! in The Crucible mean innocent people accused of being communists. The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, is an allegory of the communist witch-hunt that took place in 1950's. It relates the witch-hunt and trials that took place in Salem, Massachusetts, in 1692 to the McCarthyism that is the persecution of innocent people accused of being communists.
