Crowds had waited for hours to greet them at the Gare d'Austerlitz, and French nurses gave them lunch on arrival

The first american troops in Paris were greeted very warmly: the joy of liberation made girls from Paris greet american soldiers by kissing them; crowds would line up the streets to be able to salute the parading troops after the liberation.
