Answer:

Different kinds of map projections are created to meet different needs. This happens because no map projection is perfect. Each map projection has a problem with distortion. Some distort areas, and others distort shapes or distances. Depending on what the map will be used for, a certain projection might be selected because it will help meet that need best.

A map projection is a method for taking the curved surface of the earth and displaying it on something flat, like a computer screen or a piece of paper. the map projections are developed to minimize the imperfections of the maps and to provide greater scientific rigor to the cartography. The Three Main Families of Map Projections are :

- Cylindrical Projections : A cylindrical projection is produced by wrapping a cylinder around a globe representing the Earth.

- Conic Projections: A conic projection is derived from the projection of the globe onto a cone placed over it.

- Azimuthal Projections: An azimuthal projection is a projection of the globe onto a plane.
