The Magna Carta is the charter of rights agreed to between King John of England in 1215 in order to make peace with some of his barons. The barons wanted mostly not to be imprisoned by the Kings mere wish. Renewed by all monarchs it became part of the politics of England. It in turn influenced the original American Colonies and later the constitution of the united States. In our present day influence it is still regarded as the document that lays the foundation of the individual rights against arbitrary power of the authority.
