Answer:

Divide it into a square and a rectangle

The area is 56 m^2

Explanation:

First, you have to divide the shape to get easier shapes to find the area. We are going to draw a line and we will get a square and a rectangle. This is in the attachment.

We know that to get the area of a square and a rectangle we use the formula:

A=b*h

where

A is the area

b is the base

h is the height

After drawing the line we get a square of 4m each side and a rectangle with b=10 m and h=4m.

Now we get the area of each of the shapes.

Square:

A = 4m * 4m

A = 16 m^2

Rectangle:

A = 10m * 4m

A = 40m^2

Now we add the area of the rectangle and the area of the square to get the total area:

Total Area = 16m^2 + 40m^2

Total Area = 56m^2

ANSWER

We can divide in to two rectangles as in the attachment.

We then find the area of each rectangle and add together.

The area of the bigger rectangle is

A_1= 4* 8

A_1= 32 m^2

The area of the smaller rectangle i

A_2= 4* 6

A_2= 24 m^2

Hence the area of the figure is

Area=32+24

Area=56 m^2
