Andrew Carnegie was a Scotish-American self-made tycoon who dedicated his latest years to helping others. His fortune was mainly based on his investments in oil and the creation of the biggest steel company in the United States at the time, a move that allowed him to become a dominant force in the industry. In one of the articles he wrote, he mentioned wealthy people should be responsible for the development of their communities reason why he started expanding his philanthropic work. Even though he had little to none formal education, he was part of a household that believed reading books and self-education were fundamental. Thanks to this, he donated millions of dollars to the New York Public Library, allowing them to create more and more libraries across the US. One of his most significant contributions to the civic and social life in the country was the establishment of the renowned Carnegie-Mellon University in 1904, one of the most important ivy league schools today.
