y = (-1/4)x + 5/4

Explanation:

Going from (1,1) to (8,-3/4), x increases by 7 and y decreases by 7/4. Thus, the slope of this line is m = rise / run = (-7/4) / 7, or -1/4.

The equation of this new line is y-1 = (-1/4)(x-1), or 4y -4 = -x + 1.

Then 4y = -x + 5, or y = (-1/4)x + 5/4.
