The colonist declared themselves against the tyrannical and abusive laws of King George III. In total the colonies have suffered 27 abuses.
Some of them are: 1.- The establishment by King George III of a tyrannical authority instead of representative government.
2. King George III extended his tyrannical control by interfering with the objective judicial processes and the civil rights of the settlers.
3. King George III prevented the establishment of judicial powers in the colonies and made the judges dependent on him for their jobs and salaries.
4. King George III also established a tyrannical control by maintaining a strong military presence under his direct command.
Although the Declaration does not mention the specific legislation passed by Parliament, its list of abuses and encroachments effectively covers the history of attempts by the King and Parliament to obtain more power and control over the colonies.
