Find the common denominator for 8 and 6. That's 48

So 3/8= 18/48

And 5/6=40/48

Minus 40 from 18 to find out how many more cups of water he used.

That's 22 cups of water.

Answer:

4(8)/(9) more cups of water than sugar.

Explanation:

In order to solve this you just have to divide the number of cups of water by the cups of sugar:

(1(5)/(6) )/((3)/(8) ) \\\\((6+5)/(6) )/((3)/(8) ) \\((11)/(6) )/((3)/(8) ) \\(11*8)/(6*3)\\(88)/(18)\\(44)/(9)= 3(8)/(9)

Now we know that for every cup of sugar, Jalil uses
4(8)/(9) cups of water.
