Given that:

Sum of numbers = 51

Let,

x be the larger number

y be the smaller number

According to given statement;

x+y=51 Eqn 1

x = 2y Eqn 2

Putting x=2y in Eqn 1

2y+y=51

3y=51

Dividing both sides by 3


(3y)/(3)=(51)/(3)\\y=17

Putting y=17 in Eqn 2

x=2(17)

x=34

Hence,

Larger number = 34

Smaller number = 17
