Kitabatake Chikafusa was a Japanese court-noble and writer. He also served as a Japanese advisor to five emperors. He wrote the article, The Chronicle of the Direct Descent of God and Sovereigns in which he compared the uniqueness of Japan to China and India.
In his article, it is said that Japan is the only divine country, created by the heavenly ancestor and the descendants of the Sun Goddess was the one reigning it over. Also, through the intercourse of the Male deity and Female deity, the eight great islands of Japan were produced unlike India and China. In addition, due to the Divine Oath, the rulers of Japan have followed a single line of succession from the first divine ancestor. All these are the distinctive view of Kitabatake about Japan in comparison to China.
