“chemo” refers to energy source (reformed molecules)how the organism obtains electrons (from the oxidation and reduction-redox)

“organo”-refers to electron donor (organic substrate and compound)

“heterotroph”-refers to carbon source (organic compounds).

Examples of chemoorganoheterotrophs are decomposers-obtain carbon and electron reactions from dead organic matter, herbivores and carnivores- obtain carbon and electron reactions from living organic matter.
