Ed's age is twice that of his brother. When you add Ed's age to his brother's age, you get 36. How old is each brother?
Please write an equation that represents the situation. Explain any variable used.
Solve the equation from Part (a). Please show your work and state your solution as a complete sentence.

2x=y
×+y=36
x=Ed's age
y=His brothers age
Then you plug in Y into the secound equation.
×+2×=36.
You then add the two x together.
3x=36
The to get x by itself you take 36 and dive by 3 to get 12.
x=12
Then plug 12 into the equation
12+y=36
Then get y by itself.
y=24.
So, Ed's age is 12 and Ed's brother's age is 24.
