draw both functions in one graph. they will look like the one I appended.

The point (x,y) where they cross (unless they are parallel and never cross) is the solution.

Read off the solution.

The solution is (-6, 17). You can verify by plugging that into the equations.

Okay so you need to graph both of these equations, with -1 being the y-intercept of the first one, and 5 as the second one. Once you graph them where they intersect should be the solution of the equations
