Problem 1:

1 pint of water weighs = 1 pound

1 gallon has = 8 pints

So, 40 gallons have =
40*8=320

Hence, 40 gallons of water weighs 320 pounds.

Problem 2.

Height of Marcie = 0.97 meters

Height of Marcie's father = 1.84 meters

Her father is taller than =
1.84-0.97=0.87

So, Marcie's father is 0.87 meters taller than her.
