The challenges faced by artisans in medieval times were:
- Crafts not used for ecclesiastical intitutions led to their destruction or replacement.
- The artisans had a limited range of action because the crafsman did not devote all his time to artisan activities and was also involved in working with the land.
- A craftsman was established in a property where he offers his services in exchange for protection.
- God was the center of the universe and this also applied to art. So the artist was not worthy of creation, but of representation, recration or reinterpretation. He was not the author of his own work, since god was the only one capable of creating.
- During the middle ages, it was not possible to make a distinction between art and artisan, all works of expression were placed on the same plane, when in reality, the artist is not the same as the crftsman.
- There was no room for individual expression or in art.
