Let’s use an example, shall we? Cleopatra was considered to be the most extravagant and gorgeous Egyptian queen of all time. She had luxurious beauty treatments and was indeed, quite beautiful. Not only was makeup used back then to enhance their features and to just, well, look better, lol. But the makeup they used was also believed to have medical benefits to the skin with minerals.

A lot of their makeup and hygiene rituals had medicinal purpose. The kohl they wore on their eyes was believed to prevent eye infections and damage caused by the sun. Beauty was also a sign of holiness in ancient Egypt and it was a guide to the separation of classes.
