Katz vs Unitd States determined that tapping a public phone without a warrant violates the right to privacy.

The court determined that even though there was no use of "physical" intrusion to tap the calls made via a public phone, the use of technology to do so violated the Fourth AmendmentĀ“s rights of Mr. Katz.
