Hey there,

John Hilton's speech is considered one of the best speeches in history for several factors: he kept his audience engaged, he used vast imagery, his subject matter was important, and his message was clear.

He was set to give a speech before World War ll, and instead of reading what was shown in the monitors he presented the whole thing with what he called "calculated spontaneity" -the ability to make reading sound like conversational speaking.

He demonstrated that it is important to read as if you were talking, and so, to write as if you were talking.

"To read as if you were talking you must first write as if you were talking. What you have on the paper in front of you must be talk stuff, not book stuff". -John Hilton

Cheers
