x + 1 = 0

x = -1

x - 5 = 0

x = 5

To find the vertex, we simply average the two intercepts together to get the x value.

(-1 + 5)/2 = 2

And now that we have an x value of 2, we plug into the equation to find the y value.

f(x) = -(x + 1)(x - 5)

f(x) = -(2 + 1)(2 - 5)

f(x) = -(3)(-3)

f(x) = 9
