in a contest, each finalist must answer 4 questions correctly. each question is worth twice as much as the question before it. the fourth question is worth 2,000. how much was the first question worth?

Answer:

500.

Explanation:

Remember 4 x 5.

As 4 x 5 = 20 and if 4 x 50 = 200 then 4 x 500 would equal 2000.


( Side note: If you're doing 1000 or 2000 you can start with adding zeros then, but do not mix up them with some problems that have a zero in the product: Study this: (What equals 1000?) Student 1 says 2 x 5000 and Student 2 says 2 x 500. Which one is correct?)
