$1^2 + 2^2 = c^2\\1 + 4 = c^2\\c = \sqrt5$

Using the pythagorean theorem in the left triangle:

$x^2 + (\sqrt5)^2 = 3^2\\x^2 + 5 = 9\\x^2 = 4\\x = 2$
