Why did the rebellion in Mexico threaten Spain's control over Texas?

Spain barely had ties with Mexico because the former was too busy fighting Napoleon and France. The link was too weak, so Mexico´s call for independence the night of September 15th, 1810, was just the last broken link to set free both Mexico and - eventually - Texas.
