two wires carry electricity can create a spark if they come too close together. This spark can start a fire. Wires carry electricity are usually covered with plastic to keep them from starting a fire. Why does the plastic keep the electricity from starting a fire?

the plastic is an insulator so it cannot transfer electrons. for example if a wire was made of rubber instead of copper it wouldn't work becuase rubber doesn't conduct electricity
