Answer: At the beggining of the Civil War, the North had a huge industrial advantage, as well as having double the people living in their states. The North manufactured 97 percent of the country´s firearms and 96 percent of its railroad locomotives. They also controlled the navy, which was crucial because they imported their gunpowder.
