Let's say the inequality is y > 1:

The (DOTTED) arrow would point to the right. If the inequality is y < 1:

The (DOTTED) arrow would point to the left.

If the inequality was y ≥ 1:

The (LINE) arrow would point to the right.

If the inequality was y ≤ 1:

The (LINE) arrow would point to the left.
