this formula is really just representing:
(\Delta y)/(\Delta x)\\ or in other words, change in y/change in x

The slope formula is calculating that difference by subtracting the y and x-values.

By just looking at the tables we can easily see that from x=6 to x=8 there is a change in 2

and from y=-16 to y=-24 there is a change in -8

So plugging this into the slope formula we get
(-8)/(2)=-4
