8 ounces duh..... because a mug is basically the same size of cup, so if you would look at the Reference Sheet it’ll say: “1 cup = 8 ounces”. So with that being said, using your logic, it’ll be 8 ounces the answer. Hope that helps :)

It most likely contained 8 ounces because 8 ounces is equal to 1 cup. The average coffee mug holds close to 1 cup
