One number is 4 for less than a second number. twice the second number is 19 more than three times the first. Find the two numbers

Explanation:

first number = x

second number = y

x = y - 4

2y = 3x + 19

substitute x to the second equation

2y = 3(y-4) - 4

2y = 3y -16

-y = -16

y = 16

Go back to first equation

x = y - 4

x = 16 - 4

x = 12
