The formula of a midpoint between two points:

M\left((x_1+x_2)/(2),\ (y_1+y_2)/(2)\right)

We have (5, -1) and (-2, -4).

Substitute:

(5+(-2))/(2)=(3)/(2)=1.5\\\\(-1+(-4))/(2)=(-5)/(2)=-2.5

Answer: The midpoint is (1.5, -2.5).
