Signing of the Cumberland Compact wasknown to be as the foundation of the Tennessee State Constitution. Male settlers first settled along the Cumberland river andlater on had their wives and children brought by the river and trail suffering the attacks by natives. All this would happen in the harshest winter conditions. The Natives attacked Nashborough in the Battle of the Bluffs and the Chickamauga Cherokee would lure the men outside of the fort before attacking them. Luckily, the settlers were able to survive and the attacks became less prominent in the following years.
