The distance between planets in two stellar systems is 1.6x10^6 miles. If a spaceship is able to travel at 8,400 miles per hour, will it be able to make the journey in under a year? Justify your answer with mathematical reasoning.

Answer:

Yes it will be able to make the journey in under a year.

Explanation:

To find out how many hours it will take
1.6*10^2 and divide by 8400

(1.6*10^2)/(8400) = 190.476 hr

So it will take the space ship 190.476 hours to make the trip.

Next, ask our self, how many hours are in a year?

To find out multiply 365 * 24 = 8760 hr

The 365 = number of day in a year. The 24 = number of hours in a day.

Knowing how many hours there are in a year and how long the trip will take tells us that the journey can be made under a year since there are 8760 hours in a year and we know we can make it there in 190.476 hr traveling at 8400 mph
