Henry and Wayne operate a charter flying service out of Breckenridge, which has an elevation of 9,600 feet above sea level. Henry has two flights scheduled for the day. He is taking a couple from Breckenridge to Hamilton which has a drop of 35% in elevation. At Hamilton, he is picking up 3 business men and taking them to Denver which has a drop in elevation of 15% from Hamilton. This puts them at an elevation of feet above sea level.

Answer:

Explanation:

Henry's first flight from Breckenridge to Hamilton has about a 35% drop in elevation.

Now determine Hamilton's approximate elevation above sea level.

Henry's second flight from Hamilton to Denver has about a 15% drop in elevation.

Now determine Denver's approximate elevation above sea level.

Therefore, Denver is about 5,304 feet above sea level.

Wayne's first flight from Breckenridge to Colorado Springs has about a -drop in elevation.

Now determine Colorado Spring's approximate elevation above sea level.

Wayne's second flight from Colorado Springs to Englewood has about a -drop in elevation.

Now determine Englewood's approximate elevation above sea level.

Therefore, Englewood is about 5,400 feet above sea level.

The difference in Henry's and Wayne's final elevation is determined as follows.

Answer:

5304 feet.

Explanation:

To answer this question we must calculate the first fall of elevation of the flight from Breckenridge to Hamilton.

The initial height is 9600 feet.

The fall is said to be 35%

Therefore the new height will be the original height minus the fall:

9600 - 9600*0.35 = 9600 (1-0.35) = 9600 (0.65)\\

= 6240 feet\\

Then the new height is reduced again by 15%.

Thus:

6240 -6240*0.15 = 6240 (0.85) = 5304 feet\\

Then, this puts them at an elevation of feet above sea level of 5304 feet.
