The procedure of meassuring and studying the size, shape and other features of the human skull was popularidezed by German neuroanatomist and physiologist Franz Joseph Gall (1758-1828), and later, the term "phrenology" was utilized by his collaborator, Johan Gaspar Spuezheim.
