Write each equation in standard form

a) y+1=x
b) 2y=–6+2x
c) 2x+4y=–3
d) –12x–9=–6y
e) –2y–4=–3x
f) –4y=10

Standard form = Ax + By = c

a.

y + 1 = x

Subtract 1 from both sides.

y = x - 1

Subtract x from both sides.

-x + y = 1

b.

2y = -6 + 2x

Subtract 2x from both sides.

-2x + 2y = -6

c.

2x + 4y = -3

This equation is already in standard form.

d.

-12x - 9 = -6y

Add 6y to both sides.

-12x + 6y - 9

Add 9 to both sides.

-12x + 6y = 9

e.

-2y - 4 = -3x

Add 3x to both sides.

3x -2y - 4

Add 4 to both sides.

3x - 2y = 4

f.

-4y = 10

Because there is no x value, nothing more needs to be done to this equation.
