In us history, populism refers to a range of approaches which emphasis the role of "the people" against "the elite". Populism is a belief in the power of regular people, and in their right to have control over their government rather than a small group of political insiders or wealthy elite. They formed a political group back in the late 1800s primarily to represent farmers interests and to advocate the silver coin and government regulation of monopolies.
