Marco Polo was an Italian explorer who -alongside his brother- travelled through the Silk Road all the way to China, during the Middle Ages.
The Silk Road was a network of trade routes used to join the West and China.
Marco Polo spent 24 years travelling with his brother and he reached China and Mongolia. He also wrote a book that described his journeys and experiences.
Marco Polo was the man who inspired explorers like Columbus, who was said to travel with a copy of Marco Polo's book with him.
