“A Raising Sun” is a play that takes place in the 1950s in south-side Chicago is important because racism was a critical social issue in detriment of the American society. Through the play, Lorraine Hansberry shares the situation on how racism affected the life of his family. Hansberry family tried to live a normal life with aspirations and goals. The problem was that the young black people were prevented to leave its place in order to live in a white neighborhood.

Tensions arises when there are misunderstandings. The play shows some conflicts and upsets between the family because not all think the same. Hostility is what results when every member of the family wants to get some money for their own agenda. The young black people want a better life for the family, still accomplishing their own goals. Hope is what keeps them searching for their dreams.

“A Raisin in the Sun” is a play written by Lorraine Hansberry. The play debuted on Broadway in 1959.
