Answer:

these ratios are called in proportion.

Explanation:

A proportion is a statement that two ratios are equal. It can be written in two ways: as two equal fractions a/b = c/d; or using a colon, a:b = c:d.

Two ratios with Four numbers a, b, c, d are in proportion if a : b = c : d (we can write it as a : b :: c : d).

On simplifying both

(17)/(51) \\(28)/(84) gives
(1)/(3)

therefore these numbers are called in proportion.

The two middle numbers are the means and outer ones are extremes.

So, in
(17)/(50)= (28)/(84) 50 and 28 are means and 17 and 84 are extremes.

Suppose we have two ratios a:b and c:d which are in proportion.

So it is written as :
(a)/(b)=(c)/(d) so 'a' and 'd' are extremes and 'b' and 'c' are means.
