The point-slope form:

y-y_1=m(x-x_1)\\\\m=(y_2-y_1)/(x_2-x_1)

We have the points (-1, 6) and (7, -2). Substitute:

m=(-2-6)/(7-(-1))=(-8)/(8)=-1\\\\y-6=-1(x-(-1))\\\\y-6=-(x+1)\\\\y-6=-x-1\qqiad|\text{add 6 to both sides}\\\\\boxed{y=-x+5}
