A line that passes through the point (1, –1) and parallel to another line whose slope is 1.

Parallel lines have same slope so so far the new equation looks like this

y = 1x + b \\ y = mx + b
now you plug in you points or coordinates to find b or solve for the y-intercept

- 1 = 1(1) + b

- 1 = 1 + b

- 1 = 1 + b \\ - 1 = - 1

- 2 = b
now that you have your b your final solution is

y = 1x - 2 \: or \: y = x - 2
