Describe pasteurization. What is it’s purpose?

Pasteurization is used to reduce the bacterial population of a liquid such as milk and to destroy organisms that may cause spoilage and human disease. Most times heat is used. Like when people heated up done to make it last longer, and they also do that with milk sometimes.
