12x + 6y = 24

add -6 to both side

12x + 6y + -6y = 24 + -6y

Combine like terms:

6y + -6y = 0

12x + 0 = 24 + -6y

12x = 24 + -6y

Divide each side by '12'

x = 2 + -0.5y (your answer)
