How do the needs of society affect the allocation of power between national and state governments?

I believe Federalism limits government by creating two sovereign powers—the national government and state governments—thereby restraining the influence of both. Separation of powers imposes internal limits by dividing government against itself, giving different branches separate functions and forcing them to share power. This process of dividing power between different branches of government is called the separation of powers. From there, the Framers further divided power between the national government and the states under a system known as federalism. The federal government has limited power over all fifty states. State governments have the power to regulate within their state boundaries. I hope this helps
